Known colloquially as the “lynching museum and memorial,” The Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice are located in downtown Montgomery, Alabama, with the museum built on the site of a former warehouse that imprisoned slaves.
Montgomery is where I am now. And visiting these two sites today was extremely emotional.
One of the many things the visits gave me was a story to write about a woman from Georgia whose lynching affected the life and work of a little-known 19th century women’s and racial justice pioneer from my home state of Connecticut. More on that tomorrow.
For today, I created a short video that shows some of what I saw at the memorial and museum:
Wow Cindy, thank you for sharing this. I had no idea the museum and memorial existed. I look forward to reading your thoughts on it too, but I thank you for sharing the video and its powerful images.

Very powerful imagery requiring more attention. I share my shame of not knowing more about this particular place of remembrance. Thank you for bringing it to our attention so powerfully.
